| Workshops for String
Quartet, Piano and Strings, and Winds:
In response to participant comments on the evaluation forms, we have chosen to recommend three works for piano and strings, three for strings alone, and one for winds alone, without designating specific weeks for any. All are "Works of the Weeks."
Any participants who wish to be coached on any of these WoWs -or on any other work - should contact others to arrange a group to play it. The group may include a coach as a player or as a non-playing coach. Such groups should prepare their parts in advance, including numbering the measures in the part and score. The group should discuss how many sessions they wish to devote to the particular work, bearing in mind that the hallmark of VMAC is to play many pieces with many different groups. A list of registrants and their contact information will be mailed in late Spring.
To facilitate numbering measures, the total number in each movement is given below. See also the guidelines for numbering measures, where totals are also given for the movements of many other works. The importance of having measure numbers for the efficient coaching cannot be over-emphasized.

Piano Duet Workshop:
Music for piano four hands and
for two pianos will be coached.
Early Music Workshop:
Daily ensemble playing, under the tutelage of a staff member, of
music for recorders, viols, etc., with and without voices.

Madrigal Workshop:
Daily work on vocal music from the 16th and 17th centuries, with
excursions into later works when the voices are available.

Large Ensemble:
Each week opens with an evening of orchestral music, sometimes with soloists or chorus, depending on the instrumentation available.

Lecture/demonstration:
The VMAC staff are exploring new ways to work with participants who want to play one of the Suggestions of the Season. Evelyn, Barbara, Lousie and Gerall performed Janaček's Quartet No.1, the Kreutzer Sonata, after Tolstoy's story.

Not to be left out, this year the winds (June, Craig, Rosemary and Carl) also performed several works each week.

Bach Bash:
Each week one there is an open reading of some works of Bach and other baroque composers. Singers and instrumentalists often prepare solo parts. In 2011 we much enjoyed parts of Purcell's Dido and Aneas.

Arts
Workshop:
In 2010 and 2011, Bill Tulp taught mosaic conctruction from glass fragments he obtained from a stained-glass maker.

See more mosaics here, also art projects from previous years.
Concerts:
Performances by participant
volunteers and staff members give both players and listeners the
opportunity to enjoy works studied during the week. Members of the staff perform weekly, in addition to performing
with participant volunteers. Concert programs and images are available here.
Unscheduled Events:
As participant interest
warrants, several unscheduled offerings may be available, such as
voice production workshop,

voice class for non-singers, Tai-Chi
or Yoga or relaxation techniques, instrumental techniques, or international
folk dancing.
