String Quartet and Piano and Strings Workshop:

Each week one work for string quartet and one work for piano and strings will be scheduled for special attention. Any participants who wish to be coached on these works should prepare a part in advance, including numbering the measures in their parts and score. The Works of the Week selected for the 2007 season are listed below, with the total number of measures in each movement given to aid in preparing for rehearsals.

Those who would like to form a group for one of the Works should so indicate on their application form. Lists of interested players will be distributed in late Spring.

*A pre-numbered Eulenberg score of the trio may not follow the conventional numbering system of not counting partial first measures or first endings.

**In the W. Hansen edition of the Nielsen second movement (Minuet), the flute and oboe parts have a da capo after bar 71, while this section is written out in the other parts.

Following the guidelines, clarinet, bassoon and horn should number this reiterated section as bars 1-43, followed by a coda numbered starting with '72'.

Piano Duet Workshop:
Music for piano four hands and for two pianos will be coached.

Early Music Workshop:

Daily ensemble playing, under the tutelage of a staff member, of music for recorders, viols, etc., with and without voices.

Madrigal Workshop:
Daily work on vocal music from the 16th and 17th centuries, with excursions into later works when the voices are available.

Large Ensemble:
String orchestra music, concerti grossi, solo concerti with chamber orchestra, etc., depending on the instrumentation available.

Lecture/demonstration:
The VMAC staff are exploring new ways to work with participants who want to play one of the Works of the Week. Here Simon, Barbara, Agnes and Gerall hold forth on Schumann Op 41 #3.

Bach Bash:
Each week one there is an open reading of some of Bach's works. Singers and instrumentalists often prepare solo parts.

Concerts:
Performances by participant volunteers and staff members give both players and listeners the opportunity to enjoy works studied during the week. Members of the staff perform weekly, in addition to performing with participant volunteers.

Unscheduled Events:
As participant interest warrants, several unscheduled offerings may be available, such as voice production workshop,

voice class for non-singers, Tai-Chi or Yoga or relaxation techniques, instrumental techniques, or international folk dancing.
